Joe Thornton is a great player that I believe would actually get this sad sack team into the playoff's, providing we didn't give too much to get him (for the record, if he were willing to waive I would dish Petry, Perron and a good draft pick to get him).

The problem is that NTC and the fact that I think the guy likes living in California too much. There has to be something there as most competitive players that want to win a Stanley would have way too much pride to allow the summer he had to continue without saying "(frank) you, trade me ya bastards!".

If I ever had a boss tell me he didn't want me anymore, I wouldn't finish my shift.

That is the issue. He's good enough to get a team into the playoffs, but not good enough to help a team WIN in the playoffs. This has been apparent to everyone for 5+ years now. Who cares how many regular season wins you get? Ask the Canucks.

Meh, what's worse drafting top 10 year after year or getting to the playoffs and losing at some point?

Yah cause getting to the Conference Finals is not "WINNING" in the playoffs and worthless...

The guy gets dumped on for no reason. He should still be the C there and it's ridonculous that they took it away. Now they're saying he's gotta "make the team"?? He's the best player on the Sharks by a mile and everyone's production will drop off if he leaves. I'd love to see Couture actually face #1 matchups and see how he does. This is the biggest mis-management of a player I've seen in awhile. If you can't tell, Joe is one of my favorite players.

That being said, I wouldn't trade a ton for him. He's only got another 3 years in him at his current production until he starts to slow down which would scare me off if I'm the Oil. He needs to go to a "win now" team to grab that Cup he deserves.
